Story of the company: My Med Tour Guide’s CEO and Chief Concierge, Robert Thomma, has been traveling abroad for his dental needs for over 2 decades.  His first dental tourism trip brought him to Los Algodones, Mexico, located just across the border, south of Yuma, AZ. Known as Molar City, it boasts over 1,000 dentists in this one little town of 5,500 inhabitants- more per capita than anywhere else in the world! 

After some research, he chose a popular provider, and while the results were good, and the price was right, he did not like the factory feel of the operation, as he moved from one dentist to another throughout the afternoon’s treatment.  In 2021, he learned that one of the  clinics from Algodones had opened a location in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, an hour’s drive south of the Cancun International Airport.  He decided to make a vacation out of it when he needed a crown, as he had been quoted $1250 by his Arizona dentist, while it was under $400 in Playa del Carmen. He was sold and was delighted with the vacation and the results.  He returned and brought friends and family with him.  

Robert’s previous job in occupational safety and health (OSH), where he focused on prevention of heat related injuries and illness, brought him to Central America on business trips quite frequently, and over the last five years, he has taken advantage of being abroad and had all his dental cleanings and procedures in Central America, including  Guatemala, Panama, El Salvador and Costa Rica, and shared his secret with family and friends!

Robert speaks Spanish fluently, has an MBA in Entrepreneurship, and worked in OSH for the last 12 years. During that time, he earned advanced certifications in safety, (Certified Safety Professional- CSP) and project management (Project Management Professional- PMP). In 2025, he opened My Med Tour Guide.
